Metro first entered the retail market in January 1998, when Mansour Manufacturing & Distribution Group established Metro Markets in Alexandria to complement its existing distribution chain and meet the growing demand for an enhanced shopping experience. Over the years, Metro has grown into one of the largest food retail chains in the region, now operating 40 stores across several governorates, including Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Mansoura, Ismailia, Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, and Port Said.

In 2017, the company embarked on a comprehensive renovation initiative, modernizing 16 branches in response to positive consumer feedback on redesigned spaces. These updated stores, featuring sleek and contemporary layouts, delivered measurable improvements in performance. Building on this momentum, Metro introduced its own line of private-label products in 2020, offering customers affordable yet high-quality alternatives without compromising on consistency.

To uphold exceptional service standards across its retail network, MMD established the Mansour Training Academy, dedicated to equipping employees at all levels with the skills needed to deliver outstanding customer care. Additionally, in 2020, Metro expanded its operations with the launch of a state-of-the-art Central Kitchen spanning 4,500 square meters and staffed by more than 300 specialized chefs. This facility produces over 1,700 food products and prepares more than 25,000 items daily, adhering to strict quality controls and certified under ISO 22000 standards. This ongoing commitment to excellence ensures Metro continues to meet and exceed customer expectations.
